Shaun's Report (Fishery Manager)

Finally summer has caught up with us, warmer days and nights causing disruption in the fishing. Mornings and evenings however still producing fish dependent on how warm it gets. Unfortunately due to weather, there is no Catch and Release Voucher for this month as informed in last newsletter.

Very small patterns. Natural damsels, PTN, Hares Ear and Buzzer all being the most favoured patterns. Dry fly also good when fish are rising freely. Remember, a brace ticket, being a member during the summer months, allows fishing all day instead of just 4 hours. A good chance to use this privilege.

Dry Fly Evening Result (Friday 25th July)
12 anglers tried their hand at the most satisfying way of fishing. Six fish caught, not bad for the evening. Best Brace caught by Martin Langford. Well done to Martin and thanks to all who supported. All those who didn’t catch, had their ticket £19 credited back to their club card. Remember for the 2nd Dry Fly (5th Sept), this can be a cheap evening’s sport.

Forthcoming Events
Greene King Weekend 27th/28th Sept
Sponsored event £1 per pint for the weekend. This subsidizes the prizes for the day. Good prizes on offer. Fun fishing, 4 fish ticket, lunch included, price £35. Return booking sheets enclosed. Remember you can book using your cards on the entry forms. September is a great time of year for fishing before unpleasant winter conditions return, normally wet!!

All Method Day (Monday 25th August)
Unfortunately as to date, we only have one entry for this. This event will have to be cancelled. In respect of the weather, this may be a blessing in disguise.

Disappointing however that only one member bothered to book this.

Whilst on the subject of Club events, the month of September is hosting our Greene King event. Let’s hope this is better participated. Many who attend during the course of the year comment on the fun social atmosphere generated within these Club days. Your Club is disappointed at the lack of attendance and support shown by you, the members, in the early part of the season.

As mentioned, many are away on their holidays, this is understandable but don’t be surprised if future events are less evident in future years. Here’s hoping for your support during the Autumn months which are renowned for their fishing.

This month Greg is away on holiday, hence we have no Secretary’s report. A few fellow members tagged on to Greg’s fishing adventure, swaning around in Mexico. I’m sure you’ll hear of their exploits next month.

Many of you now will receive your newsletter by e-mail. If you have an e-mail address and are still receiving your newsletter by post, please send me an e-mail to the address above in the letterhead confirming that you wish to receive your future newsletters by e-mail.

Hope to see you all during August, but enjoy your holiday and return eager for the Autumn months’ fishing.

Tight lines!
